Over the past decade, my musical journey has been an unwavering companion, a steadfast source of solace during the challenges of solo motherhood. Whether during quiet nap times, late into the night, or amidst the hustle of school runs, music has been my constant ally. It's been there as I scribbled lyrics on crumpled receipts, a testament to the power of play that guided me through difficult days, helping my family navigate grief. In sharing my story, I aim to break the silence surrounding mental illness, offering hope and understanding.
Collaborating with my former producer, David Odlum, a Grammy winner for his work on Tinariwen’s Tassili album, was a stroke of fortune. Despite the distance—where he operated from a studio in France at the time —creative exchanges flowed seamlessly via Dropbox. The project's global reach was made possible by the generosity and talent of musicians spanning Ireland (Gemma Hayes), Australia (Mark Stanley), Vancouver (Jonathan Anderson, Brian Chan), and Montreal (Fred Bouchard, Claus Frostell, Phillip Hornsey, Mishka Stein).
This album title 'Watching Pretend’ is still in the making and is a true labor of love, spanning almost 18 years since my last album release. It has grown new wings thanks to the incredible dedication of the reddit HLWIT and Discord Fond My Mind communities who searched relentlessly for 16 years for my song ‘How Long’ which had been deemed a lost song by the Lost Wave community.
Like my lost song and the community surrounding the search, ‘Watching Pretend’ is a testament to the immense self-compassion, unwavering patience, and community that comes with making and appreciating art. It reflects a journey of belief in oneself and the perseverance needed to see it through.
By pre-ordering 'Watching Pretend,' you not only support my art but also join me in the mission to inspire everyone to 'Be Well.' Your contribution goes beyond the music; it fuels a purpose aimed at fostering community, social connections, and well-being for all.
My experience with my lost song has taught me the importance of stepping into your own shoes. So I am putting this out there: my dream is to write a book, and a children’s book, to write a screenplay to accompany my music, and other creative endeavours to inspire further hope with the world. I am currently in the search for a literary agent and music supervisors to license my song and upcoming music.
